Rising Above – How She Overcame Her Most Challenging Moments
One of Patra’s most challenging jobs involved teaching high school students. In her words, “I can assure you that trying to find a way to entertain and educate a room full of teenagers is much more intimidating that litigating!”. Keeping kids focused on learning can be extremely difficult, and she talked about ways to keep kids excited about learning and trying to find creative ways to approach them. On her first day as a teacher, a student tried to make herself sick just to get out of class! Even with all the difficulties, she stated that her time as a teacher was a great experience for her, and influenced the way she approached her practice once she eventually joined up with Sodoma Law York.
Another job of hers before her practice was as an assistant to a 15 person project management engineering team. She worked closely with management for a pharmaceutical plant with very few women, and was one of the youngest employees on staff. She said in the interview, “I dedicated myself to earning their respect through hard work.” As one of the few female engineers, this had to have been exasperating, but thanks to her hard work and dedication she was awarded her honorary “engineer” title by the time. “I still have my hard hat!” she exclaimed excitedly.
Life Outside of Sodoma Law York
Her ideal alternative career path would have been in the arts or entertainment business such as public relations or productions. “I had an online music magazine with friends for a number of years where we managed and booked various bands,” she explained, “We also hosted a radio show at WUSC called Pirate Nerd Radio.”
Her love for culture goes beyond arts or entertainment, leading her to travel to Spain and Portugal over the summer where Patatas Bravas became her new favorite food. When asked, she said it was hard to come up with an answer about how she would spend a Saturday away from work, saying, “That would be such an anomaly”. But after a little searching, she said an ideal break would be having a spa day with her daughter, booking a quick weekend getaway, or checking out a local event here in the York County area.
Her Favorite Part of Practicing Law
Family law is an environment where every case is unique, and must be handled with care. She said that she continues to learn new things on a daily basis when it comes to practicing law, and that every new case presents new circumstances where creative thinking is essential to providing the best solution for her clients and their families. Patra’s unique job experiences, and her overall passion for creative thinking have made her a tremendous member of the Sodoma Law York team!
